The chairman of Associated Somali Journalists (ASOJ) Dahir Abdulle Alasow expressed his congratulation to the moderate Islamist leader Sheik Sharif Sheik Ahmed on his election as the new president of Somalia on Thursday in a parliament vote held in Djibouti.
"I do welcome the new president for Somalia cleric Sheik Ahmed and I am thanking the Djiboutian president Ismael Omar Gelle for his affection and talent of holding historic presidential election for Somalia to make it out of crisis," Alasow, ASOJ chairman told in a press conference sending strong message to the new leader of Somalia.

In his message, Mr. Alasow hinted the new president Sheik Ahmed to show respect to the free press in Somalia and warned him of taking the same route by the former regimes and not to avert from the justice.

"Mr. president, you should now that I will write down more about you if i see some gabs on your task like impartiality, tribalism and corruption so be careful of these wrong doings done by your predecessors, said Alasow.

The ASOJ chairman also noted that the Somali journalists faced many hardships including killing, torturing, intimidating, and oppression and forcing them to flee the country. "I am asking for the president to respect the freedom of expression," added Alasow.

He urged all the media people in Somalia to help restore peace and stability in the country.
