Press Freedom Under Attack: ASOJ Calls for Immediate Release of Detained Himilo TV Journalists
Press Release – ASOJ (Associated Somali Journalists)
Date: 12 October 2025
Location: Mogadishu, Somalia
The Associated Somali Journalists (ASOJ) strongly condemns the unlawful arrest of Himilo TV Director, Ahmed Mohamed Aden, and his Deputy Director, Khadar Abdirahim Ibrahim, who were detained today in Mogadishu.
This act represents a clear violation of press freedom and an attempt to silence independent journalists. It contradicts the Provisional Constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia and international conventions that protect freedom of expression and human rights.
ASOJ calls on the security authorities and government leaders to immediately release the detained journalists, who were performing their professional duties in service to the public.
The organization reminds all government institutions that freedom of the press is a cornerstone of democracy and transparency.
