Somalia:ASOJ reacts Shabelle radio owner (ex-gunner).
Associated Somali Journalists (ASOJ) has described the owner of Shabelle Radio Abdimalik Yusuf Mohamud as a man whose ambition stuck on buying-off from the man adapted on violating the journalists’ rights Omar Faruk rather than regarding the press freedom and the rights of its people..
"I and Abdimalik know
each other well, everybody knows that he is unkind and do often violate the
rights of the Somali journalists because he knows nothing about the media rules.
As knowingly, he was a gunner that participated in the civic carnage in Somalia,
he then became businessman benefiting from money left by his late sister. I was
among the gentles who gave him some advises on setting up Shabelle Radio," said
Dahir Abdulle Alasow, ASOJ chairman.
Alasow said when Mokhtar Mohamed
Hirabe, the director of Shabelle Radio was killed and its journalists and other
reporters gone on strike it happened that Shabelle owner talked to Horn Afrik
radio saying that his FM station had nothing to do with the reporters’ media
suspension.
Alasow reiterated that Faruk was responsible for the killing
of the Shabelle radio director Mokhtar Mohamed Hirabe after an argument over the
money donated by Doha Media Center intended for the local journalists operating
inside Mogadishu.
"Faruk costs a lot of money for the killings and
dispersing the Somalia journalists to receive aid money from the donor countries
for their safety," said Alasow. "he uses Hassan Hanafi Hajji, the head of media
in Al-Shabab hardliners for the killings of the professional journalists and it
is widely known that Faruk was master-minder of Hirabe’s murder aiming to earn a
lot of money from the world," he added.
Associated Somali Journalists
(ASOJ) sees the news published on Shabelle website as threat and intimidation on
the independent Somali journalists and mislead the international
view.
Alasow, ASOJ chairman lastly asked for all the international
community and media organizations to make an independent inquiry on the 12 visas
taken from the Italian embassy in Nairobi and also the killings of the
journalists, the money donated by the Doha Media Center.
He plead for the
rights groups to help journalist Ahmed Omar Hashi (Ahmed Tajir) who is injury
and now live as exile in Kampala,
Uganda.
