ASOJ demands the release of Somali journalist detained in Djibouti
ASOJ.ORG - Associated Somali Journalists (ASOJ) condemns the arbitrary incarceration of a Somali journalist, Roble Mohamed Dirir, who is currently in the notorious Gabood prison in Djibouti city. Roble who works for Horncable TV and Editor-in-Chief of Galmudugnews.com has been in jail for nearly six months without justice. Authorities arrested him shortly after his arrival in Djibouti where he came to obtain entry Visa from an embassy.
"Ever since his detention, Roble did not get fair trial, and has not been released. We strongly condemns this act of inhumanity and demand for his immediate and unconditional release" said Abdulkadir Jim’ale, Chairman of ASOJ.
ASOJ calls upon media advocacy bodies and international community to hold responsible the government of Djibouti for this act of incarceration which is direct violation against international human rights standards, and demands the government of Djibouti to release him with immediate effect.
