    Invitation to an ICRC Seminar on International Humanitarian Law

    After last year's success, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in cooperation with FCA would like to once again invite journalists ASOJ who work in conflict zones to a Seminar on International Humanitarian Law.

After last year's success, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in cooperation with FCA would like to once again invite journalists ASOJ who work in conflict zones to a Seminar on International Humanitarian Law.
IHL seeks to protect persons who are not or no longer taking part in
thehostilities such as civilians and wounded or captured soldiers.

 It alsorestricts the methods and means of warfare.
The seminar will be held at the ICRC delegation on Denis Pritt Road,  
nearState House, on


Saturday, September 22nd from 9:00 am till 5:00 pm.

It will be conducted by the ICRC legal advisors, Len Blazeby  
(Nairobi) andJamie Williamson (Pretoria). They will treat questions 
such as:

* What are the essential rules and treaties of IHL?
* Who is bound by the Geneva Conventions?
* In what situations does humanitarian law apply
* How does humanitarian law protect refugees and internally displaced
persons?

*What measures are available for implementing humanitarian law?
* How are war criinals prosecuted under humanitarian law?
* What is the difference between humanitarian law and human rights 
law?

*What does IHL say about "terrorism"?

The seminar is free of charge. If you are interested in attending it,
